Scientists from Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization in Australia have developed a new eating plan that they claim is a great option for people who want to control their weight or treat diabetes.

The experts published their plan in a book that can be ordered from the organization's website.

"Our researchers found a clear connection between a low-carb diet and diabetes management," it says. And further: "Scientists assume that if people eat more healthy fats and lean proteins and at the same time reduce the intake of carbohydrates, they can significantly improve their health and well-being."

A lot of protein and unsaturated fats
One of the authors, Professor Grant Brinkworth, told the Daily Mail that the new diet is based on low carbohydrates and and a lot of proteins and unsaturated fats like in olives and avocados.

In order to arrive at their results, the study participants were divided into two groups: one was put on a low-fat diet with a lot of carbohydrates. The others tried the new program with low carbohydrates and a lot of fat.

All subjects were overweight or obese. In addition, all types of diabetes had been diagnosed.

Enjoyment foods as part of the diet
The investigation showed that the participants of both groups lost weight significantly and almost equally. However, the low-carb group had a significant health advantage: the test subjects who ate the new program were able to reduce their diabetes medication consumption by 40 percent.

According to Professor Brinkworth, it was easier for them to stay on the diet because carbohydrates, snacks, and sweets were also allowed.

“We also included an entire section on luxury foods in the book. We want to make sure that we have a diet model that is flexible enough that people can adhere to it, ”said the expert.

The desserts listed in the book are relatively healthy because the scientists tried to avoid unnecessary sugar. If you like snacks, you can also get zucchini and avocado fries. (ad)
